October-Where's the cool weather?

October in Texas and it is still in the high 80's, upper 90's depending on the day. In Texas you can never determine just what you have in store for you until noon hits and you see what happens. The weathermen, God love them, never get it right. The other day it was supposed to be in the low 80's with a cold front blowing in. Yea, right! I think the forecasters had been up way too late or smoking a bong because later that day the thermometer rose and rose up to mid 90's it went. The heat about choked me walking to the mail box! I've always moaned and complained about the Texas heat. I've lived her all my life and I still complain. You would think I would grow accustomed to it by now, but I haven't. I think I was destined to live in a milder climate with cooler temps. Eventually.

October brings Halloween. I love Halloween. This is the only time of the year where you can dress yourself and your kids up in a lame Halloween costume and go beg for candy at people's doorsteps. You can also turn your front porch light on and hand out all the old candy you have in your pantry. Not to mention when the little kids ring the door bell, especially the ones in the neighborhood you dislike, you can jump out and scare them half to death and no one will call the 5-oh on you. Awesome!

I remember when I was a freshman in Highschool we had this really HOT, single coach. He taught Geography. He mentioned that he was going to be home on Halloween. A group of us got together and went trick or treating. We decided to head over to his place and knock on the door. We got there and his front porch light was off, but his car was home. We knocked and he answered. He laughed and said he'd be right back. He brought us leftovers from his fridge. OMG! We about died. He was so funny in class, but I had no idea he was so original outside of class. I will never forget that and always joke about doing it myself. I mean, come on... what a great way to get rid of those old leftovers. I love it! He was a genius.

So, this year Jacob is going to be a Tiger. Joshua will re-use one of Jacob's costumes and carry on the Pea in a Pod costume tradition. We will trick or treat in our neighborhood and at Grandparent's houses. I bought a Halloween shirt and that is about as fancy as I am getting this year. The dog skated out of a costume this year. I'm too cheap and she just scratches at it anyway so why bother with her. She can pull the wagon this year like the dog that pulled the Grinch's sleigh in the movie. Maybe I'll give her some antlers with bells for safety measures.

Yea...

Mother Nature, Bring on the cool weather. I want to start walking at night and getting some fresh air (minus heat and humidity). Thank you!

What I hate about TX and Halloween is I never know whether to buy a hot weather costume or a cold one. Either way I go I either seem to be carrying around a cozy costume saying "this is what he was supposed to be" or he's bundled up and his costume is completely covered!
