Breastfeeding has many benefits, but for me the #1 was losing weight with my first born son. I shed those pregnancy pounds like butter with Jacob. You would see the pounds falling off of me if I stood still long enough. (Insert record scratch here). Until I had Joshua...
The pounds have slowly, stubbornly crept off of me. They have dripped like a slow leak in an old faucet. It has been tough to shed the pregnancy weight this go around. I'm not sure why. It could be my metabolism and age. Just not sure. I'm by no means overweight, but I would love to lose a few more pounds and get down into the 130's. Right now, I'm bordering on 140-150 depending on what day of the week it is and how much I've consumed in one day.
Honestly, I do not watch what I eat and try to eat enough calories in a day so I don't jeopardize my milk supply for the Niblet. So... it's been a roller coaster for me. I want to diet and I want to lose weight before we try to get pregnant again. I don't want to go into another pregnancy (if we can even achieve another pregnancy!) with extra weight around my middle.
I am tall so I will never and should never be in the 110's or even low 120's. To maintain a healthy body and normal-looking, fit-self I should be in the 130's. I always felt good in that weight range. So-I'm striving to eat healthier and get off my butt more. I am walking with the kids and trying to do some floor exercises when time allows. I already get exercise just lugging an 18 lb. 6 month old boy around all day and not to mention chasing and carrying on with a two and a half year old. These boys are enough of a workout. I could just use some more to help get my body back.
I will say that Josh hit 6 months and I shed about 8 more pounds. Each time I get my period I swear that I lose about 5+ pounds. It is really the most bizarre thing, but I dropped two pant sizes in one month. I don't know if its my uterus still shrinking back down or what? Very strange. I love for my period to visit because I can look forward to more weight loss.
Talk to me:
If you nursed your baby how did you lose your pregnancy weight? How long did it take you to get your body back the way you wanted it to look? Are you happy with your body after children?

I'll answer a few questions here - first of all I am 41 and truly happy with my age. I am the mother of two precious girls that 5 years ago I didn't ever think would be possible so the number just doesn't matter.
I was overweight when I got PG with Corenn - didn't lose it all before I got PG with Delaney. When Delaney was 2 months old I started Weight Watchers (yes while nursing - I have TONS of milk this time) and am down a few pounds less than I was when I got PG with Corenn. I still need to lose about 45 pounds though until I am at a healthy weight and its coming off slower now that Delaney is only nursing twice a day. I truly do think breastfeeding helps.
Once I stop nursing and lose the weight I am sure I will have saggy boobies and a poochie tummy but I honestly don't care - I kinda consider them badges of honor having been blessed enough to have children.
Just my two cents . . .

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! i am so jealous! breastfeeding always made me carry the weight until i was done! good for you!!
I gained 35ish pounds with Peter and was at my highest weight ever when I got pregnant that time. I lost the weight by 8 months postpartum through nothing but breastfeeding--P was barely eating any solid food still at that point, so he must have been sucking out a lot of calories then. By the time I got pregnant again at 15 months postpartum, I weighed 5-8 pounds less than I did when I got pregnant the first time. So far, at almost 34 weeks pregnant, I weigh about 12 pounds less than I did at the same point last time. I figure I'll max out about 30 pounds over my pre-preg weight. My hope is that I lose the weight a little faster because I don't have as much to drop (the first 20 pounds were easy--it was that last 15 that took so long). I also got a YWCA membership from my MIL for Christmas, so once fall comes I'll be able to keep moving around even when it gets cold. In my ideal world, I'll start running at 3 months pp and maybe try for a 5K three months after that. But that might be crazy.
