Easter Weekend Revisited

Easter weekend was great this year. We decided to spend it up at Lake Sam Rayburn with Mr. Big's family. We headed up Friday afternoon after we packed the truck to the gills with family paraphenalia. The boys were ready for their naps and slept most of the way there. Jacob had fun pointing out the things on the side of the road and asking what things were. It's so much fun to see him experience the world.

We got there and immediately walked down to enjoy the view of the lake. The sun was shining and the breeze was blowing. It never ceased from the time we arrived until the time we left. It was gorgeous and relaxing. It was just what we needed considering all of the things we've been doing over the past six months. Relaxation was calling our names. Every single one of us, kids included.

We didn't really plan much for the weekend. It was kind of fly by your pants. We were all up there enjoying one another's company. Grandparents were enjoying the grandkids. Parents were enjoying each other while Grandparents doted on grandkids. Dogs ran together. Life just seemed to stand still and it was easy. Life was easy for three whole days. I enjoyed every last breath of fresh air toppled with every beautiful scene.

Saturday we enjoyed a nice boat ride on the lake. Jacob was so excited to ride in Pop's pontoon boat. I took many pictures of him in his life jacket walking from the house to the boat. He was just giddy with anticipation. I love seeing the lights in his eyes when he experiences something really fun for the first time. It is a vision that quite vividly stays put in my mind. I can't shake it and really don't ever want to. Joshua had his straight, I mean life jacket on and didn't really like that too much. I ended up taking his off (Bad Mom) and wrapping a towel around him so he could fall asleep. The boat ride did the trick and he was out for much of the boat ride. Jacob drove the boat and was all smiles. He walked around the boat pointing and gazing. He found the guys on jet skis extremely exciting. He's going to be my adventurous son. He's got a need for speed! I'll save those stories for another entry.

Saturday night the girls played Crazy 8's. I usually lose at card games but for once in my life I was on fire. I won almost every single game. I was sort of ashamed of myself. I just couldn't stop winning. It was insane. I swear I'm never that lucky so it feels good to say I won for once. Yeehaw!

After the card games died down we made baskets for the kids. Jacob's was full of Thomas the Train goodies, Dora and Blues Clues Eggs with stickers and jelly beans, movies, books, coloring books, crayons, and just junk that he truly did not need. We hid the baskets in their hiding places and went to bed.

Early on Sunday after we woke up we hid the eggs out in the yard. I say hid them, let's just say delicately put them in the grass and bushes in easy to find spots. We were working with a 19 month old and a 2.5 year old. They are not experts to the Easter egg hunt (yet).

The funniest moment on Easter was Jacob when found his basket in the linen closet while Mr. Big was taking his shower. So much for that little activity. He declared to everyone in the living room as he carried his basket for everyone to see "Look what I found"! This kid is just like his Dad. Way too observant. Darn it! So, we went through the whole big deal "Wow, Jacob, Look what the Easter Bunny left you! You must have been a great boy this year." He just smiled and went through his basket.

We ate lunch and headed back to the city. I wish we could have stayed longer. We enjoyed it. I think we might have an Easter tradition in the making. This was the first year we all went up as a family. All schedules permitted and the weather was nice. I hope next year is just as much fun.
