Yesterday we had National Night out with our neighbors. Everyone gathered in a specified yard and we all caught up on what was going on in everyone's lives. Our neighborhood is great in the fact that there are only 26 houses. There are just enough people to get to know one another and just enough to stay out of everyone else's business. Of course, we do have the resident gossip, the resident spy, the resident busy body and the resident religious guru.
Most of the couples living in the neighborhood are older, mid to late 40's and 50's. Their children are moved away or at college. Some have grandchildren. Some are retired. There are three young couples, including Mr. Big and I here, and weird enough we all live side by side in a row.
Jamie, one of the younguns, just had a baby boy on July 14th, 9 days after I had Josh. So, we have that in common. The other neighbors (mentioned) have two girls that are 3 and 1. So, we have a little line up of kids going. All the old people kid and joke that there must be something in the water on our side of the pond. Jamie and I would both like more children, while the other couple are done.
So... we all walked down to the specified house with children in tow. Mr. Big carted the wagon while I pushed the stroller. We all came out of the houses at the same time and walked down together. As we neared the house everyone started clapping and yelling that "Romper Room" was there. The women congregated towards the babies and the men all poked fun at the young dads. I love our neighborhood!
We all chatted, ate some good food and just hung out. The kids chased each other around the yard. The weather was mild, not too hot. The mosquitos were low key. We had a nice time.
No one got out of control. There were no canoe races. It was a nice gathering.
How was your National Night out?
